Economic History

Beaver County was formed in 1800 from Allegheny and Washington counties where the Beaver River meets the Ohio. Its twentieth century was defined by heavy industry along the river: J&L Steel's enormous Aliquippa works, the Babcock & Wilcox plant in Beaver Falls, Jones & Laughlin's company housing plans, and the Michael Baker and glass works nearby. The collapse of the Aliquippa mill in the 1980s cut the county's population sharply. The current growth story is the Shell Polymers cracker plant in Potter/Center Township near Monaca, which brought construction employment and a wave of exterior renovation work back to the river towns.

Housing Stock Across Beaver County

Aliquippa, Ambridge, Beaver Falls, and Monaca are dense company-town housing: 1900–1930 frame and brick homes on narrow hillside lots, steep pitches, plank decking, and porch roofs that were rebuilt piecemeal over decades. Beaver borough holds larger Victorian and Colonial Revival houses with slate and complex dormer work. Center Township, Chippewa, and Brighton are postwar ranches, split-levels, and newer subdivisions where standard architectural-shingle tear-offs are the norm.

Permitting Norms

Permitting is municipal under the Pennsylvania Uniform Construction Code; the larger municipalities keep in-house code offices and most boroughs and townships contract a third-party code agency. Steep-slope re-roofs usually require a permit in the cities and boroughs. HICPA registration with the Pennsylvania Attorney General is required statewide for home improvement contractors.

Regional climate — Shenango Valley & the PA/OH border

This is a regional pattern, not a local one — it holds across our whole territory. Roughly 40 inches of rain and 50+ inches of snow a year, with lake-effect bands off Lake Erie in winter. Freeze-thaw is the dominant cool-season roof stressor from November through March. Summer brings straight-line wind events off the Ohio border and occasional hail from convective thunderstorm lines. What varies from town to town is which of those forces bites first on the specific roof profile that town was built for — that's what the page above covers.

Manufacturer credentials

  • GAF Master Elite Contractor. Held by a small percentage of roofing contractors nationwide. Required to install the GAF Golden Pledge warranty — 50 years on materials, 25 years on workmanship, transferable once. GAF inspects the completed roof before issuing the warranty.
  • Owens Corning Preferred Contractor.
  • IKO Craftsman.
  • Fully insured in Pennsylvania and Ohio. In-house crews — no subcontractors. Family-owned and operating out of Sharon, PA since 2000.

Path 1 — Insurance claim

For wind, hail, or storm-driven damage. We walk the roof with your insurance adjuster and document what we find so nothing that should be covered gets missed. We are not a public adjuster — that is a separate PA license — and we do not negotiate the settlement. We document damage, meet the adjuster, and rebuild what the carrier approves to code and to manufacturer spec.

Path 2 — Retail with financing

For roofs simply reaching the end of their life. 0% interest financing on shorter terms and long-term financing that keeps monthly payments low. Runs through a lending partner and is subject to credit approval. We walk through both paths in the free in-home estimate before you sign anything. See financing details →

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you cover all of Beaver County?
Yes. Beaver Falls is about 40 minutes from our Sharon shop and the Aliquippa/Monaca river corridor about 55, so the whole county is inside our weekly routing.
What makes the river-town roofs harder?
Access and layer history. Aliquippa, Ambridge, and Wellsville-style hillside lots leave almost no staging room, and 1900-1930 homes frequently have two or three layers over plank decking, so tear-off and disposal volume is higher than the roof size suggests.
Do you work on slate in Beaver borough?
Yes. Beaver's Victorian and Colonial Revival houses carry real slate and copper flashing. We repair slate and, when a homeowner opts to convert, install synthetic slate or premium designer asphalt with matched detailing.
Do you handle insurance claims in Beaver County?
Yes, including meeting the adjuster on site. Straight-line wind from thunderstorm lines tracking up the Ohio Valley is the most common claim trigger here.

I called Penn Ohio for a roof repair estimate on my home recently. Gary came to my home and I could tell that he cares about doing the best for the customer. He gave me a lot options to choose from and I felt very comfortable and not like he is trying to take advantage of me like other companies. 10/10 guy.

These guys were great to work with. I've dealt with contractors that want to spend two hours of my time hitting me with a PowerPoint followed by high pressure tactics to commit immediately. They offer one price if I sign today but magically

Great company to work with. Gary and his crew were great. They did a very nice job replacing the roof and gutters. The price was aggressive and the cleanup was excellent. Definitely recommend Gary and Dustin for your roofing needs
