Economic History

Lawrence County was formed in 1849 from parts of Beaver and Mercer counties at the confluence of the Shenango and Mahoning rivers, where the two form the Beaver River. New Castle grew into one of the country's leading tin-plate producers — the "Tin Plate Capital of the World" — alongside limestone quarrying, cement, and pottery. Ellwood City was founded in 1890 as a planned industrial town around tube and steel works. The county's industrial base contracted sharply after the 1970s; today healthcare, distribution along the I-76/I-376 corridors, and agriculture in the northern and western townships carry more of the economy.

Housing Stock Across Lawrence County

New Castle and Ellwood City hold dense pre-1940 stock — frame worker housing, brick four-squares, and a large inventory of late-Victorian homes on the North Hill. Outside the two cities, the townships are farmhouses, postwar ranches, and scattered subdivision growth along PA-65, PA-18, and US-422.

Permitting Norms

Permits are issued municipally. The City of New Castle runs its own code office; most townships and boroughs use a shared or third-party code officer under the Pennsylvania Uniform Construction Code. Statewide HICPA registration with the Pennsylvania Attorney General applies to all home improvement contractors.

Regional climate — Shenango Valley & the PA/OH border

This is a regional pattern, not a local one — it holds across our whole territory. Roughly 40 inches of rain and 50+ inches of snow a year, with lake-effect bands off Lake Erie in winter. Freeze-thaw is the dominant cool-season roof stressor from November through March. Summer brings straight-line wind events off the Ohio border and occasional hail from convective thunderstorm lines. What varies from town to town is which of those forces bites first on the specific roof profile that town was built for — that's what the page above covers.

Manufacturer credentials

  • GAF Master Elite Contractor. Held by a small percentage of roofing contractors nationwide. Required to install the GAF Golden Pledge warranty — 50 years on materials, 25 years on workmanship, transferable once. GAF inspects the completed roof before issuing the warranty.
  • Owens Corning Preferred Contractor.
  • IKO Craftsman.
  • Fully insured in Pennsylvania and Ohio. In-house crews — no subcontractors. Family-owned and operating out of Sharon, PA since 2000.

Path 1 — Insurance claim

For wind, hail, or storm-driven damage. We walk the roof with your insurance adjuster and document what we find so nothing that should be covered gets missed. We are not a public adjuster — that is a separate PA license — and we do not negotiate the settlement. We document damage, meet the adjuster, and rebuild what the carrier approves to code and to manufacturer spec.

Path 2 — Retail with financing

For roofs simply reaching the end of their life. 0% interest financing on shorter terms and long-term financing that keeps monthly payments low. Runs through a lending partner and is subject to credit approval. We walk through both paths in the free in-home estimate before you sign anything. See financing details →
