Economic History
Canton grew on steel, roller bearings, and vacuum cleaners - Timken, Hoover in North Canton, and Republic Steel all built the county's twentieth century. William McKinley ran his 1896 front-porch campaign from his Canton home and is buried there, and the Pro Football Hall of Fame opened in Canton in 1963 because the NFL was founded in the city in 1920.
