Greenville's identity comes from three overlapping histories — a Shenango Canal port from the 1830s, a Bessemer and Lake Erie Railroad shop town from the late 19th century, and a college town since Thiel College was chartered in 1866. The practical consequence for a roofer is that the housing stock is old. What a Greenville Roof Actually Is

The blocks around Main Street, downtown Greenville, and the Thiel campus are dense pre-1940 frame and brick homes — Foursquares, late-Victorian two-and-a- half stories, and worker cottages, most of them on original 1x6 plank decking. Pitches run 10/12 and steeper on the two-story stock and 8/12 on the bungalows.
