Penn Ohio Roofing
Roofing Contractor in Greene County, PA
Coal-and-shale country in Pennsylvania's southwest corner - borough Victorians, farmsteads, and metal-roofed outbuildings.
Economic History
Greene County is Pennsylvania's southwestern corner, bordering West Virginia, and it has always been coal country - the Pittsburgh seam runs deep beneath it and the county's longwall mines have been among the most productive in the United States. Waynesburg, the county seat since 1796, is home to Waynesburg University, founded in 1849. Marcellus and Utica shale drilling added a second extraction economy after 2008. Outside the two boroughs the county is farms, ridges, and hollows with the lowest population density in southwestern Pennsylvania.
Housing Stock Across Greene County
Waynesburg and Carmichaels hold compact nineteenth-century borough cores - brick and frame houses with steep gables, tin and standing-seam legacy roofs, and later asphalt over top. The surrounding countryside is farmhouses with wraparound porches, bank barns, and pole buildings, where metal roofing is the norm. Longwall mining subsidence has affected some structures, so framing that has shifted is worth checking before a new roof goes on.
Permitting Norms
Permits are issued municipality by municipality under the Pennsylvania Uniform Construction Code, and every home improvement contractor working in the state must hold an active HICPA registration with the Pennsylvania Attorney General. Waynesburg Borough and the townships use third-party code agencies for UCC enforcement, and many rural townships do not require a permit for a like-for-like re-roof. Structural repairs still do.

Regional climate — Shenango Valley & the PA/OH border
This is a regional pattern, not a local one — it holds across our whole territory. Roughly 40 inches of rain and 50+ inches of snow a year, with lake-effect bands off Lake Erie in winter. Freeze-thaw is the dominant cool-season roof stressor from November through March. Summer brings straight-line wind events off the Ohio border and occasional hail from convective thunderstorm lines. What varies from town to town is which of those forces bites first on the specific roof profile that town was built for — that's what the page above covers.

Path 1 — Insurance claim
For wind, hail, or storm-driven damage. We walk the roof with your insurance adjuster and document what we find so nothing that should be covered gets missed. We are not a public adjuster — that is a separate PA license — and we do not negotiate the settlement. We document damage, meet the adjuster, and rebuild what the carrier approves to code and to manufacturer spec.
Path 2 — Retail with financing
For roofs simply reaching the end of their life. 0% interest financing on shorter terms and long-term financing that keeps monthly payments low. Runs through a lending partner and is subject to credit approval. We walk through both paths in the free in-home estimate before you sign anything. See financing details →

Frequently Asked Questions
- Do you install metal roofing on farm buildings?
- Yes - exposed-fastener panel for barns and pole buildings and standing seam where the customer wants the longer-life system. We size the purlin spacing and fastener pattern to the building rather than defaulting to one detail.
- Can mine subsidence affect a roof?
- It can. Where longwall mining has moved a foundation, you see it in racked door frames and separated ridge lines. If we see that on an inspection we say so before quoting, because a new roof on a moving structure will telegraph the movement.
- Is hail a real risk here?
- Yes. Squall lines coming up the Ohio Valley are the most common source of storm claims in Greene County, more than snow. We document impact marks with photos and dates so an insurance adjuster has something concrete to work from.
- How do you handle a farm property with several buildings?
- One inspection, one written scope covering each structure separately, and one mobilization. That is cheaper than pulling a crew out three times for three buildings.

What Our Customers Are Saying in Greene County
Penn-Ohio did good work at a very reasonable price. Other quotes were ~30% higher. Austin got us on the calendar quickly and the team replaces our roof in 6 hours.
Penn Ohio just recently replaced my roof. Removed all the old material down to bare wood, and replaced with beautiful new shingles. Cleaned up all the trash. Everything done in one day! My roof looks great. Thanks Penn Ohio!
I needed some wood and peak repairs done. Penn Ohio was quick to come and provide an estimate. Which was a very good estimate. The work was done with care and in one day. I'm very pleased with the work. They were also very easy to communicate with. I would strongly recommend.
I called Penn Ohio for a roof repair estimate on my home recently. Gary came to my home and I could tell that he cares about doing the best for the customer. He gave me a lot options to choose from and I felt very comfortable and not like he is trying to take advantage of me like other companies. 10/10 guy.
These guys were great to work with. I've dealt with contractors that want to spend two hours of my time hitting me with a PowerPoint followed by high pressure tactics to commit immediately. They offer one price if I sign today but magically
Great company to work with. Gary and his crew were great. They did a very nice job replacing the roof and gutters. The price was aggressive and the cleanup was excellent. Definitely recommend Gary and Dustin for your roofing needs
