Economic History
Huron County was part of the Firelands - the western section of the Connecticut Western Reserve set aside for Connecticut residents whose homes were burned by British raids during the Revolution. Norwalk grew as the Firelands' seat and its West Main Street became known for the merchant and professional mansions built along it in the nineteenth century. Bellevue developed as a rail junction and is home to the Mad River and NKP Railroad Museum. Agriculture, food processing, and light manufacturing still form the county's base.
